Supply and demand. It used to be that it was easy to kill people: big crowded areas, plenty of people within machette distance. Now that they've killed everyone, people are spread much further out which means it takes more effort to kill people in general and sometimes you just can't be bothered and decide to go to McDonald's instead.

I kind of hate the use of violent crime as a measurement because the ucr has strict rules on what classifies as that. Let's say we look at Houston for example, this is what crime looks like.
