This is all great, but I’ll still want a trackpoint.
I used to be strongly in the trackpoint camp, so I get it. However, kwin on Wayland with the Framework touchpad hasn’t had me missing a trackpoint whatsoever.
I just used my older laptop though and the touchpad is so bad!
I kind of would remove the touchpad to be honest. It just something to cause accidents when typing. (Yes, set to be disabled on keyboard use). I’d rather have more keys. It’s much closer to typing position for my hands. I didn’t used to like them, but I was contracting a few years, on thinkpads, and found myself developing on the move and odd places. I got into the trackpoint. Now I miss it on laptops without it.
I feel the same way, a trackpoint is just so intuitive to use, but I can get by with a trackpad if the sensitivity is set right. It’s a shame that they aren’t a standard feature on all laptops.
Seams we are in a minority. But there is enough of this minority I think it would be worth Framework has an option for us. Or at least running the numbers to see. Patents permitting…
Framework is small enough that right now it seems to be beyond their abilities, but there is a lot of community discussion about it on their forums. https://community.frame.work/t/responded-any-chance-of-trackpoint/1026
Yer I see things like : https://community.frame.work/t/thinkpad-keyboard-mod-super-early-stages/38484
But I don’t have time to do a lot of fiddling. My fiddling time is used maintaining what I already have.
