    All of Europe except Ireland, England, and Iceland are communist and in the Soviet sphere of influence in 1984.

    This is in the literal first few pages of the book. These chuds have never read 1984.

      I have a theory that Winston is an unreliable/uninformed narrator about the rest of the world, and it’s just the Anglosphere that sucks while the countries in the two big communist economic blocks are all doing fine.

        I think that was the point, the book challenges the idea that there even is a war going on multiple times. But whether there is a war going on, or not, is ultimately irrelevant to the context of the book.

        I would go a step further and say that “Oceania” doesn’t exist and is only Airstrip One. They are isolated from the rest of the world and terrorized by the government into believing that they are fighting an endless war.

        Both Julia and O’Brien have multiple lines that essentially confirm the idea that the war is fake too. For example Julia states that the missiles hitting London are probably fired by the government itself, as they always hit the Prole districts and after decades of bombing the rich sections are virtually untouched. None of the Proles are ever drafted either, and there is no mention of veterans, dead soldiers, widows, or any sort of conscription; all despite the war being decades long at that point.

        Then there’s one very suspicious line from O’Brien where he states, “Our surgeons can alter people beyond recognition. Sometimes it is necessary.” Now remember back to how they describe the POW’s that are always being marched through London. Winston describes them as all Mongoloid, which is bizarre because there are no mention of white Europeans, black people, or any other race for that matter, despite the whole world being at war. They are mutilating the thought criminals and marching them through the streets as POWs.

        My bad, should have just said British Isles. I was lumping Wales, England, and Scotland together.

        Scotland is also occupied by the 1984 version of NATO.

    I’m not aware of any statements from the NZ government on the election. I doubt most of the countries in red have seen any reason to comment on it either.

    Before anybody goes “but this is reddit-logo, it is just a bunch of extremely online dudebros who doesn’t represent the average European” I have to stress that this does not exaggerate general opinion in Europe the least. In fact it is probably a little better because there are fewer slurs in there.

    Most Europeans are completely convinced that they belong to a master race whose stage of civilization is leagues ahead that of anyone else. Some of them might think that non-europeans are a charity case that can be gradually elevated to a level close to that of Europe while others thank that non-europeans are horses of bloodthirsty savages to be kept down but they all agree on European supremacy and exceptionalism.

    So the Western European diaspora now admitted that the people of color actually oppose white Westernization and Pax Americana. They also admitted that “democratic” nations only prevail through money and military power instead of popular support, and that the whole world actually side with Russia? If the “democracy” of Western European diaspora depends on military authoritarianism and concentration of wealth, then they are not democratic except in name.

    For the background context of tap water, the rich countries that benefited from imperialism do have drinkable tap water, but their bottled water companies hide the fact to make people waste money to “boost” economic investment from the pretense that citizens of democratic countries need authoritarian business scammers to know what is best for themselves. The wasteful allocation of resource to dirty bottled water with slogan of environmentalism or naturalism cause thief of water from African people and mass pollution of ground water from industrial plants that produce plastics. It is also interesting to note that imprisoned Indigenous First Nation people in federal reservation concentration camps in harsh barren wasteland do not get the same drinkable tap water as the European immigrants even when the European immigrants promised provision of daily necessities like drinkable water. This cheating and genocidal policies tby the lazy free-ridng European immigrant savages is part of a policy to force the First Nation people to suffer from planned starvation and planned chemical attacks until they surrender all the fruit of their labor, the inheritance from their hard working ancestors, and the reparation for the 150 years of fake school death camps that the Nazi German imitated.
