Because men typically protect their nuts more than their life. I don’t see any soldiers voluntarily absorbing the recoil from a machine gun with their nads.
That’s very true, but that looks to be too high up to be on the nads. It looks like they’re bracing it against their pelvis.

I would assume this is before the adoption of the BAR.
