Man, if I fuck up at work, it’s possible someone gets their pay a day late, and when it happens I feel like such a loser.
But at least I haven’t accidentally released any wanted would-be regiciders, so that’s nice I suppose.
“Accidentally”
I find it hard to believe an Interpol most-wanted billionaire cartel leader just happens to be released “accidentally”.
You’d be surprised at the power of compounded examples of “eh, not my problem” in a bureaucracy
You’d be surprised at the power of “fuck up this paperwork and we’ll give you a bag full of cash and not kill your family.”
Knowing drug cartels and how they operate in Mexico, the bag of money is the least likely part of that scenario. Generally not having your entire living bloodline killed is enough of a motivator.
People get upset if the stick is not accompanied by a carrot
They still salty about 1648
This is the best summary I could come up with:
A notorious cartel boss who reportedly planned to murder the heir to the Dutch throne and Prime Minister Mark Rutte has escaped prison due to a judicial mix-up in Spain.
Upon learning of his detention, Dutch authorities filed an extradition request with Spain’s National Court, asking that the gang leader be sent back to the Netherlands to face charges related to his drug trafficking empire.
Dutch authorities appealed, filing a new, urgent request stressing that the cartel boss was one of Interpol’s most wanted criminals and that he was sought for his role in a decade-long, pan-continental drug war in which dozens of people were killed in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Morocco.
Spain’s Cadena SER radio network on Tuesday revealed that although the National Court accepted the Dutch appeal, it neglected to issue a detention order that would have ensured Bouyakhrichan remained behind bars until the extradition was carried out.
In 2022 the Dutch Princess Amalia had to withdraw from her student housing complex and return to the royal palace after police obtained credible evidence indicating that Bouyakhrichan was planning to either kidnap or assassinate the heir to the throne.
The cartel boss’ release will likely require a reinforcement of security protocols enacted to protect her safety, as well as that of political leaders including caretaker Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who was reported by Dutch outlet De Telegraaf to be on Bouyakhrichan’s list of possible high-profile targets.
The original article contains 362 words, the summary contains 238 words. Saved 34%. I’m a bot and I’m open source!
Interesting: although the Dutch news outlets carry extensive messages about Karim B and his escape, none of them mention that it was him threatening Princess Amalia or PM Rutte. Amalia actually went to Spain to study because of the increased danger in Amsterdam. And then they find Karim B. also in Spain…
I wonder how credible this Politico article is and what the stories in Spanish outlets are. Please share links…
This is a huge embarrassment to the Spanish throne, as they were recently thanks by the Dutch royals in a huge state visit for ‘keeping their daughter safe’ during her stay in Madrid, where she went as the threats were too great for her to stay in Amsterdam.
Regicide? More of a French pastime, but Spain’s OK.
