Soda stream has been owned by Pepsi for a while now. It’s no longer exclusively manufactured in Israel.

      Correct. Per the BNC:

August 22, 2018 — Earlier this week, PepsiCo announced that it signed an agreement to buy SodaStream, a producer of home-carbonation machines. SodaStream has faced global boycotts because of its complicity in Israel’s grave violations of Palestinian human rights.

Omar Barghouti, co-founder of the BDS movement for Palestinian rights, said:

SodaStream is still subject to boycott by the global, Palestinian-led BDS movement for Palestinian rights. Its new factory is actively  complicit in Israel’s policy of displacing the indigenous Bedouin-Palestinian citizens of Israel in the Naqab (Negev). SodaStream’s mistreatment of and discrimination against Palestinian workers is not forgotten either.

Sodastream was always such a strange target. It’s a niche product, and hasn’t been relevant for a decade. Closing their original factory put 100s of Palestinians out of work; it was one of the companies that fostered cooperation between Israelis and Palestinians.

Why not post about a major company like Intel or Apple? They have core products and development in Israel.

You seem to be here in good faith, so thanks for your contribution but you seem a little misinformed on the sentiment of these changes on the ground. I will do my best to provide context, though others with a greater understanding may doubtless prove more helpful.

Closing the original factory put 100s of Palestinians out of work

Correct, and this was celebrated as a victory by the BDS movement; despite the unfortunate loss of employment opportunities and cooperation it was treated as a net gain for the Palestinian people in the struggle against apartheid Israel.

It’s a niche product, and hasn’t been relevant for a decade.

Again this is a credit that the BDS movement claims. “At the height of the BDS campaign against SodaStream, the company’s share price tumbled and its reputation was damaged,” per Omar Barghouti.

Why not post about a major company like Intel or Apple?

Check my post history. While I haven’t posted about Intel or Apple directly yet, I am working through the official Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions list published by the BNC, of which SodaStream is an entry, as is Intel. Me posting today about SodaStream today should never be taken to imply I don’t support BDS on other institutions—quite the opposite!

^^Highly recommend checking this article out for more information. Hoping this is helpful. Those with more experience in this field please feel free to correct me.

I bought a used SodaStream for 40 Canadian dollars and an adapter on Amazon for 20.

I then go to the welding supply store and buy food rated CO2. It is usually called beer gas here in Soviet canuckistan.

    I get a 45 lb bottle for $40.

    Forty. Five. Pounds.

I use Aarke’s subscription. They have a branding deal with sodasense.

There are also tutorials on how to set up c02 tanks, a little cost up front but far cheaper than any other option.
