Thanks. While I think I agree with the overall sentiment expressed in the meme, stating it this way just plays into the conservative paranoia that crime is way up and violence is increasing. The only major category of crime that’s up is vehicle theft.
If we want to effectively combat all the misinformation and right-wing fear rhetoric we have to be consistent, and on the same page with putting truthful information in our own rhetoric.
Good to note that violence and crime is actually going down.
Your right wing parties actually fund your police? Ours underfund them like everything else. They basically just exist to give you a reference number to give you your insurance company now.
Though I don’t know where you live, I’d be surprised if your police were actually underfunded. More likely the funds are wildly mismanaged and spent on garbage like crowd control weaponry, fear-mongering “everyone is an active enemy combatant”-style training, or straight up APCs.
They had real terms funding cuts for almost a decade as part of our Conservatives holy mantra of “austerity”.

I’m British too, I think the user you’re referring to has something of a point, there are plenty of videos of one ethnic minority male being surrounded by police for a minor crime.
In many cities they get half or more of the entire city budget, not to speak of the billions the last two presidential administrations have put into policing.
That’s why I said your right. Ours have been systematically underfunding all public services, including the police.

If police were doing their stated goal of eliminating crime, then they would be out of a job.
