Stumbled on this and thought it was worth a share. I had no idea you can eat gorse!
I had no idea you can eat gorse!
It’s flowers are meant to make a nice wine/mead

For real? I saw that referenced somewhere and assumed the author was just being fanciful.
I really want to try gorse now but I don’t know where any handy gorse is.
Look up gorse flower wine and cordial, I’ve not tried it myself, but must try to make some gorse mead one day
Found it! Also there’s commercially made gin with gorse!
This has unlocked a memory for me of being taught how to eat supplejack at a school camp when I was in primary/intermediate!
Oh wow, did it taste nice?
I’ve only eaten ferns and stuff. I really love bracken shoots and wish it wasn’t a carcinogen.
It’s so long ago I honestly can’t remember the taste. I just remember being shown to peel and eat the new shoots
Will have to try it sometime!
I remember being shown how to eat the inside of thistles once. As a kid I ate a lot of random stuff from trees etc but was always too impatient to peel thistles by myself.
Karamū fruit is edible, I used to pick and eat the berries while waiting for the school bus as a kid.
I did not know that! I’ve seen birds eating it but I was always a bit chicken because of the colour.
The fruit to seed ratio is pretty rubbish, but they taste nice. Worth a go.
Will definitely try it. I love loquats and their fruit:seed ratio is also not great.
