I’m an anarchist turned Marxist that used to browse exclusively anarchist spaces, and I can confirm that this is exactly how it goes.

There seems to be this tendency to be so concerned with “ANti-aUThORitariAn” aesthetics that leftist principles get thrown out the window in the process.

There’s also a serious problem with Anarchists who literally don’t engage with Anarchist theory at all

The “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me” types whose idea of becoming ungovernable is to just disagree with everyone

Luckily they seem to be mostly online

Yeah, my comment was about these types of anarchists, but I was fearful that I was coming off as sectarian.

No disrespect meant to Anarchists, but their camp has a serious problem with zero theory oppositional defiance. They know they hate the boss and the president and the cops, but this is the entire basis of their politics. An ideology of, like you said, “Fuck you, I won’t do what you tell me” with no theoretical grounding beyond whatever they might have picked up arguing on the internet.

I regret to inform you that in my experience they are the majority of IRL self-identified anarchists.

They aren’t actually anarchists, of course, because they know nothing about it. They just adhere dogmatically to “horizontalism”, pick fights, tell people they can’t impose literally any restrictions on their behavior or you’re a cop, and then, for the most hilarious bit, frequently end up threatening to coerce people.
