Look at this adorable mother fucker. It’s a fucking duck plant. It’s so fucking cute.

Now look at what 90% of modern Tamagotchi characters look like (yes Tamagotchi is still a thing), they all have the same weird human girl with a big head thing going on

What the hell happened? They’re supposed to be virtual alien pets, not virtual 3 year old girls.

This has to be the weirdest thing I’ve ever complained about.

Yes! Bring hack the waddling head Tamas! More weird and wacky, less princess, pls!

EDIT: lmao, here’s the wiki article on Bill:

Bill, known as Sam (サム Samu) in Japan, is a special adult character introduced on the global release of the original Tamagotchi. Name Origin

The US name “Bill” was coined due to the character sprite’s similarity in appearance to former US President Bill Clinton (despite the character not being directly based on him). This visual similarity is later played out in Bill’s personality traits in early American Tamagotchi media.

In Japan, Bill’s official name is Sam (サム), which is a reference to “Uncle Sam”, a personification of the United States. Prior to his official name being revealed, he was colloquially known as Gaijintchi (外人っち), with “gaijin” means “foreigner” or “outsider”. Appearance

Bill has had varying appearances, though he remains to be a large head with legs. In his original Japanese artwork, he was portrayed with a large, stereotypical American head with blond hair, wearing jeans and brown shoes, with large arms in his back pockets, and blue eyes.

as others said it looks like commercialization, standardization, and trend chasing of other popular things, it’s also possible they are thinking if they have to make it into a game or animated series in the future it will be cheaper to animate if they all have the same shape/rig/skeleton? miss those old designs too kel-sad

They were so cute. Most kids in my school were tamagotchi heads, a few other kids had digimon. It’s funny because I didn’t learn until recently that tamagotchi was marketed towards girls with digimon for boys. All the boys in my middle school loved the tama.

Exactly. They used to be way more gender neutral. Now they lean heavy into marketing for “girls” and I think that holds them back. I mean, I have nothing against people who like the princess aesthetic, but that’s narrowing your market down to a very specific type of girl (a lot of girls don’t even like it) and seems like an odd choice from a business point of view.

Compare this to what the marketing used to be like: A bunch of silly little guys that fit any aesthetic while still being full of personality.
