    Nah, there are red/white Santas that pre-date his appearances in Coca-Cola advertising. They did a hell of a lot to standardize red/white Santa.

      This is the key. They didn’t invent it, but they definitely helped standardize it.

    Modern Santa emerged in the early 1900s, before Coca-Cola adopted him in the 1930’s, but the Coke advertising really solidified that specific image of him. This comic is from 1903, with all the modern features.
