    there was a contract. it was periodically renegotiated and renewed, as long-term deals very often are. this went on for six decades.

    ukraine declines to renew it–for obvious reasons… and should be graciously thanked for keeping up with their end of the deal through its most recent expiry, despite the years of war thrust upon it by the other party to that contract.

    tough break, but ukraine is not at fault here–not even remotely; and surely not to blame for slovakia’s loss of a revenue stream that relied on that ‘upstream’ deal.
