Woodland Woodpecker
I read that where they occur, downy woodpeckers (Dryobates pubescens) are the most likely woodpeckers to visit backyard feeders. However, this is not true where I live, as red-bellied woodpeckers visit my feeders more frequently. In fact, I rarely see downy woodpeckers.

@[email protected] I’ve only seen one yellow-bellied sapsucker come into my yard and never the flickers for the pileated woodpeckers. I’m probably doing something wrong. Maybe it’s the dogs.

I usually see the northern flickers and the yellow-bellied sapsuckers on the edge of the forest. Red-bellied woodpeckers frequent my backyard and travel between an oak tree and the feeders. Less frequently downy woodpeckers come to the same oak tree, but I’ve never seen on at any of the bird feeders.
