Yeah I didn’t think the paintings I saw were just temporary loans from Iran and were being sent back. Unfortunately a lot of stolen shit from all over the world ends up in western hands. The Br*tish are notorious about it.
Like you probably heard about how the Christian fundamentalists who own Hobby Lobby bought stolen art from Iraq via ISIS. In a just world, they’d be put in prison and re-educated while their wealth was distributed among Iraqis as reparations. Instead, they paid a small fine and made to give the stuff back. They still got to keep some other stolen artifacts from a seperate deal because they gave them to some Bible museum.
