A strange move. Israel had a major opportunity to have sectarian infighting happen. Jolani even said he was going to ignore Israel. But Israel really wants Syria to develop as their enemy as well? This is not how divide and conquer works Netanyahu.

The conflict is inevitable, israel goals clash with turkeys goal and Jolani is more of a turkish goon. They are going to be a much bigger problem for israel eventually so might aswell nip the bud.

Turkey does not clash with Israel. They are providing the main fuel pipeline to supply Israel with fuel for the genocide.

Russia also supplied the EU with gas so? These are not immutable relations, the “greater israel” project inevitably clashes with the neottomanist project.

Good point but Russia does not (currently) want to fight the EU. They want to fight Ukraine. And they use EU money to buy weapons. Turkey is doing jack all for Palestine with the pipeline money. Only Iran is. And Turkey even took the opportunity to capture Syria while Iran is busy with Israel.

The wild card remains Israel, the neighboring nation the new Syrian government has tried so far in vain to appease.

are we really re-learning this one?

    Appeasement never works.

So…I think it’s pretty self-evident that Israel knew about the plan by Hamas to kidnap Israeli citizens, and purposely let it happen to have an excuse to attack Palestine. Seeing that they’ve pretty much gotten away with genocide without too much fuss, they’re hedging their bets that they’ll be able to just steamroll Syria without any international resistance again.

I think they’ve majorly underestimated how much the world is going to condemn this. It was one thing to “protect it’s citizens”, it’s another thing entirely to outright invade another nation.

I’d be shocked if Europe doesn’t sanction Israel. They no longer see America as an ally. Hell, this attack is going to shut up a lot of those “Israel has a right to defend itself” chuds in America as well.

I think you’re majorly overestimating how much the world cares.

Israel has been invading other nations literally continuously throughout its existence. You can debate that it is to “protect it’s citizens”, and there may even be some truth to that sometimes, but it’s clearly generally been the aggressor since its founding. And (almost) nobody cared.

I’d be shocked if Europe doesn’t sanction Israel

Some strong-worded letters will surely be sent, and politicians will call on “all sides to stop the hostilities”, which in practice means Israel gets to keep whatever it could occupy. Maybe a couple of somewhat left-leaning countries (Spain, Sweden, Norway, etc) will sanction Israel individually, but then they don’t have much trade by this point anyway so they have no negotiating power. As for the rest, trading (including trading weapons) with Israel is profitable monetarily and beneficial politically, so not much will really change.
