Im currently hosting this bot here on programming.dev and have it set to federate with everything programming.dev does so you dont need to self host
To trigger the bot just tag @[email protected] at the start of your comment and then put the amount of time you want to be reminded in
- Supports everything from seconds to years up to a maximum of 10 years
- Supports other activitypub platforms as long as they can make a message in lemmy (ex. mastodon)
If you have any improvements or suggestions feel free to make an issue/pull request in the repo
Edit: Now works based on keywords so you can summon it with !remindme instead of a full ping See edit 4
Edit 2: Kbin seems to break it if your comment doesnt have language set to english. Not something I can fix, kbin is going to have to See edit 3
Edit 3: Ive fixed the kbin bug for all communities in the instance. No promises if it doesnt respond in a non programming.dev instance though as their language settings may be different and block replies to your comments
Edit 4: The bot is temporarily offline so I can make it follow the lemmy.world bot guidelines

The issue with that is it doesnt work properly with federated platforms like kbin and mastodon. I also cant see who upvoted with the current api
With the current system only the person it replies to will get a notification since you only get a notification for direct replies. And then the bot account can be hidden by blocking it or hiding all bot accounts in your profile

Edit 2: Kbin seems to break it if your comment doesnt have language set to english. Not something I can fix, kbin is going to have to
Does this mean it also doesn’t work if you set your comment to german or anything other than english?
Had to reply from my kbin account since the language federation is also broken for regular accounts. It depends on what the lemmy community has set as its language. Kbin comments federate as undetermined regardless of the lemmy community settings so if the lemmy is set to english nobody can reply to kbin comments (since they cant post undetermined language comments). For set to german then yeah same would be true if it lets you comment since people in the lemmy community cant reply to that as well
Huh, that’s interesting.
kbin seems to do language via a dropdown below the comment box rather than community settings. It is default set to english, so that’s weird it doesn’t get federated as such. Maybe, since it’s the default, english gets federated as undetermined? I’ll try making a german comment after this and see if it federates over as german (= english federates as undetermined) or undetermined (= language federation is broken/unfinished).
Edit: Looks like the german comment federated as undetermined too, I don’t see a language label from programming.dev.
Testing german language federation
Ive just set the community to undetermined language. If this reply goes through then you should be able to trigger the bot in it

@RemindMe 30 minutes
try doing it with !remindme instead, kbin pings might not be formatted properly with the lemmy platform. If thats the case I can try to add it as a keyword
!remindme 30 minutes
just realized I can also try to test it
