which games have the best fishing mini-games, etc? the game CANNOT solely be about fishing.

~by “best,” i mean “fishing mechanics enjoyed subjectively”~

MY LIST:

  • Final Fantasy XI (both pre and post fishing mechanics changes)
  • Breath of Fire VI
  • The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I remember Far Cry 5 having a surprisingly good fishing system. That said the best one? Club Penguin RIP.

Wow fishing really helped me when I was sick. Back in the WoD I’d fish in my garrison and my guildies would drop by to fish with me since I didn’t really have the energy to actually play the game.

As someone who loves both wow and fishing minigames I gotta say, wow fishing sucks haha

Nowadays you can use an addon to fish using a single button so you can watch something else, the only way to fish without falling asleep

Well, I shared my experience in the past, you post some really nonsensical stuff about “nowadays” and addons. Did you even play the game you “love” back then?

i think your unsolicited “wow fishing sucks” in response to someone saying they liked wow fishing is probably why you’re getting a negative response.

Oh, I didnt ask why I got a negative response, I asked why is he questioning if I played the game back then or not. Which is funny, seems to imply that if I did I would like the fishing. Let me tell you, fishing in wow is not even a minigame, you just toss the bobber and click on it after! No special weather fish, night fish, special bait, nothing

I love fishing minigames, I would spend hours at my friends house playing the fishing minigame in zelda OOC, I max out fishing first in stardew, any RPG with fishing is instantly 9/10 for me!

it was implied as the whole interaction would have been completely avoided. and yes: i’ve played WoW on and off since BC as well, and i don’t disagree that fishing in WoW is incredibly basic. but “sucks” is a value judgement and your value criteria wasn’t explained (more clicks than two? a different screen with a more in-depth mini-game? etc.) and even with that additional criteria explained: no one asked. the guy was like “it was chill for me to fish in WoW,” responding with “Fishing in WoW sucks haha” is immature at best. but i mean, yeah, you’re right. WoW fishing is basic. not sure what you’re trying to prove to the poster though – that he has bad taste in fishing mini-games? that he’s wrong for liking wow fishing? or are you just trying to prove that you have superior taste in arbitrary 1s and 0s.

Im not sure what you are arguing with me, I really dont care I got a negative response and like I said in the previous post, I was just asking why he was questioning whether or not I actually played the game that I ‘loved’

Kind of the opposite of your question but I am incredibly frustrated with Baldur’s Gate 3. You are literally on the coast, on of the first lootable things you come across is a container of fish on a dock. You can find a fishing pole not long after.

    NO FISHING IN THE GAME.

I am a big fan of the fishing in Final Fantasy XV. I loved all the different lures and rods you could collect and the variety of different fish and areas to go fishing. The secret boss fish were also super cool.

Inherited honestly from the studio’s previous game, Divinity Original Sin II. Whole first act takes place on an island. Plenty of lootable fish, nets, poles, buckets, etc. but no fishing.

that’s incredibly sad, considering Baldur’s Gate 3 is a game you would assume has that functionality due to the vastness of progression options and ‘robust’ world. i guess it wasn’t in 1 or 2, so …

Man I had forgotten how fun fishing was in FFXI, nice mix of passive and engaging, adds in a little combat, and really good rewards

I’m also someone who enjoys the fishing minigames of a game more than the actual game.

I spent all of wow legion fishing

I spent 3 months fishing in ffxiv before doing much else

Games like Another Farming Roguelike I literally only fish

I’m surprised that nobody has said OSRS because while it’s simple, it’s progressively rewarding and has special minigames to break the monotony.

I guess I’m just trying to say you aren’t alone in having this oddly specific way of enjoying video games

Valheim has decent enough fishing - coupled with the environment and music, it’s pretty relaxing to sit there for an hour and fish.
