Every night as I lie in bed I have to calm myself about the shrill noise going on. Sometimes during the day too. It’s still at the point where life goes on mostly unaffected, but after 8 years I’ve started to forget what silence sounded like, a cure would be very fucking welcomed.

Saaaame. I think it’s because I got a lot of ear infections as a toddler. I have never known true silence. It gets depressing to think about so I do my best to avoid. Plus my mind is super good at tuning it out by this point.

My dad told me all the time as a kid and I didn’t listen because “earplugs aren’t cool, I wanna hear the band maaaaaaan”. I was le dumb.

Now I have sets for gigs and sets for riding motorbikes but the damage is already done. Now, instead of hearing my engine and the wind, I get to ride through valleys and forests to the sweet tune of EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Now I get to repeat this cycle with my own kids!

I don’t have tinnitus, but I have fibromyalgia. Over the years I’ve also started to forget what not having pain feels like. At this point, all I live for is the hopes of remembering what it was like before. Right now, I’m just appreciative being able to have moments of silence to myself. Hang in there friend, we both have a long road ahead of us.

Ahh I’ve read about that, it sounds awful. I hope technology can help science fix us both!

Same. I can’t wear IEMs for too long because the noise just gets louder till about 45 minutes when I have to take them off. Open-back headphones are likely the only thing I can wear comfortably going forward

Same. I think that hearing nothing, real silence, would be so jarring to me, it would borderline drive me insane.

I feel you, I have to always have something on, be it TV, music, radio, anything to distract me from the constant EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I have a fan running at night on max power to create a hum to drown it out. Even now it’s winter, I just point it at the wall. I would give anything to enjoy a bit of sweet, sweet silence again!
