Can’t wait until we have a device, that is as easy/affordable as picking up a new Alexa… that works with home assistant.
Once, that problem is solved in a way that doesn’t involve soldering and 3d printing… voice will really start to take off.
Willow looks like it’s a decent chunk of the way there, as soon as the hardware is more generally available.
hardware is more generally available.
Yup, that is the one missing piece.
I have been using the new piper/wyoming stuff, and it actually works extremely nicely. I am very impressed with it.
I agree! The pace things are moving has me very excited. I might need to brush the dust off my soldering iron so I can convert my 5+ nest speakers into something that is fully local and open source.
I’m surprised these things have been on the market for almost a decade now and nobody has really attempted or figured out how to crack them and put third party firmware on them.
There is this but it’s replacing almost everything inside. https://hackaday.com/2023/07/23/google-nest-mini-gutted-and-rebuilt-to-run-custom-agents/ I am hoping they sell the boards but most likely won’t out of fear of Google lawyers.
I set it up last month. Local voice control is not quite there yet but it looks promising. Home Assistant’s cloud assistant works really well though.
Just needs wake words now and this could be a game changer. Really looking forward to see where this is going.
oPower integration is very welcome. Though pricing isn’t working for me.
Anybody know if it’s possible to update to an older version? I’m back on the .4 release, and I’m kinda nervous about upgrading to the latest version without stepping through earlier releases with all the breaking changes I’m aware of since then.
I am NOT looking forward to the MQTT breaking changes. With Z2M and 80+ Zigbee devices it is going to be awful if there aren’t any good tools to help with naming transition.
fyi, just found this PSA: MQTT Name changes in 2023.8.
TL;DR: Once Z2M updates in September, the warnings will go away.
I am a little confused what is changing here. I set all my device names in Z2M for HASS and let entities name themselves. Its going to rename the entities on me?
No, it’s throwing names you need to change
I’m excited by the oPower integration! My energy providers are not supported, but at least my gas company is an oPower customer, so hopefully.
I couldn’t find a list of potential customers , nor whether there is a plan to grow them
