There should always be a decent place to live on one’s own with dignity and peace and not subject to landlord or one’s parent’s caprices. It can be provided now to reduce crime and encourage productivity or it can be denied and provided later at greater cost and with total loss of functioning thru prison when they snap. Its weird how everyone is on the same page that making sure there’s affordable housing is unthinkable but they’re perfectly ok with housing people in prison so basically everyone loses anyway.

You very rarely hear about crimes involving someone living peacefully without a roomate or member of their family they hate but are dependant on for shelter. That just shouldn’t be a thing, its basically admitting that we’re okay with increased crime and desperation so we can have private landlords little different than feudal lords in function if not in name

The Waltons (tv show family set in the Great Depression) always struck me as one of the strongest illustrations of a genuinely strong and truly nourishing family system.

They truly love each other unselfishly and everyone’s feelings and dignity actually matter to the rest of the group at the end of the day. They all learn from each other, recognize when they’ve acted poorly (the grandparents, parents, and children alike) and do their best to figure out where they can contribute knowing they will be supported and upheld in turn
