How many hours do you have in it? I’m just getting started and I’m barely out of the tutorial, looking for food to survive.

Around 5300, which is about 4x larger than my next most played game. Are you playing the survival mode? If not then food shouldn’t be necessary to survive. It can come in handy though in some fights. Food basically acts as a healing potion (though there’s also healing potions, but obviously a little less common than food. Still common though). If you want I can give you some tips on what I like to do on a new playthrough (I can avoid spoilers and omit cheesy early game strats if you want, and only include enough stuff to make the early game a smooth experience)

I’m playing on survival mode. I don’t want any tips for now, thank you! How do you have so many hours? My most played game (Factorio) is only 800 hours.

Funny enough, in my 5300 hours I’ve never tried survival mode. It’s relatively new (at least as far as games from 2011 are concerned) so much of my playtime was from before it became an option.

Honestly, I had a lot of free time around 2016-2021 so that helped. It was also one of the only games I played for probably 3-4 years straight

What were you doing in the game with all those hours? 100%'ing it with every race?

I always have UESP (Unofficial Elder Scrolls Patch) installed, even for “vanilla” playthroughs. From there, usually graphics mods, there’s tons of good ones. I also like SkyUI, which, as the name suggests, changes the UI. Alternate Start is a must when you get to having many characters (I think I’ve got 60-70 characters). Ordinator changes the perk system in the game, and I sometimes have it on, depending on the playthrough. A Quality World Map is another favourite, as the name implies it changes the map in the game to be much nicer. Beyond Skyrim: Bruma is fantastic, it adds the northern part of Cyrodiil (the place you’re at in Oblivion). RDO adds thousands of new dialogue lines, which is a must when you’re at thousands of hours. Random NPC dialogue gets repetitive after a while. Open Cities is also nice if you have a decent rig, as it removes the loading screens when entering/leaving major walled-off cities. It reminds me of Morrowind that way.

There’s lots more I like that I just can’t think of right now, but they’re mostly gameplay mods. Adding new locations, side quests, characters, that sort of thing. There’s so many dumb mods too which just add stupid shit, those are fun to play around with. A giant (and I mean absolutely massive) cow with NPCs to worship it, turning all dragons into Thomas the tank engine, changing horses to my little pony characters, changing Alduin into Macho Man Randy Savage, and many, many more. There’s seriously so many silly mods that I don’t think anyone could ever get bored.

Wow! I’ll stick to pure vanilla until I beat the game at least.
