I don’t get why Android phones have so much ram.

They often have more ram than my wife’s MacBook and the same or my as my desktop.

How much ram is needed if you’re not gaming or video editing?

In my case, it’s a very occasional picture or video recorded and then just social media apps and web. Do I need to get a phone with 12gb? Or is that just thrown in there for marketing?

    I have a phone with 3gb and it works fine. 8gb is way overkill

      The sweet spot is actually 6 GBs of ram for a phone, especially if you use ZRAM.

        Maybe as I don’t really monitor my ram usage. I just know android 13 works fine on a phone from 2019.

          Funnily enough, I have had very bad RAM management with Android 13 with my current phone, I remember A12 felt better, and definitely A14 is a step in the right direction.
