Two things can be true at once.

Deer are actually usually overpopulated though. That’s what hunting licenses are issued for.

Yes two things can be true at once but recycling Lemmy talk from other posts doesn’t inherently mean it applies to every event where there is a wrong taking place.

Deer are not parasites. Humans caused their overpopulation and built roads where they have lived for thousands of years. And then on top of that try and say that it’s the deers fault?

The PZP vaccine is more than effective enough at controlling populations. We killed off all their predators and then made a profit driven sport out of it. It’s disgusting and unnecesary. You don’t see people hunting wild horses in overpopulated areas, you see us using alternatives that don’t involve unnecesary suffering.

Ok, I agree with most of your comment, though the one were talking about was a joke I think and not serious.

Anyway, you’re referring to hunting as inhumane and I totally don’t agree. As far as eating meat goes, it’s very humane. The animal gets to live their natural lives for a relatively long time, and then they die in a relative (to nature) quick and painless method. I don’t hunt, but hunting is extremely humane compared to almost anything in nature. You can watch videos of lions eating their prey alive while they’re still calling out for help, for example.

As long as we agree that the natural world should exist, we don’t get to treat hunting as cruel. Sure, it’s sucks that anything has to feel pain, but it can’t go away unless we pave over the planet and remove all life. Life is pain and suffering.

Also, horse is eaten in many places around the world. I wouldn’t have an issue with it as a form of population control where they cause issues, which they are an invasive species. There are many animals we don’t have good ways to control the population for, like boar, where hunting protects nature and is encouraged. Sure, it’s all humanity’s fault, but it is what it is and it can’t be reversed.
