I’m just guessing. I think we see legends z-a for the switch succesor, maybe for both consoles, but still see a new Generation 2025.

But i hope they just took enough time for development and give us a polished game. It’s at least 3 years since the last legends, there are good games out there with 3 years dev time.

I could see Pokemon Legends Z-A being the Switch swan song, one last AAA release for the giant install base. It could also be launched along side a new ultra-budget version of the Switch (like the GBA Micro and Wii Mini).

Pokemon games have come out for previous gen systems. Crystal (GB) did got its international release after the GBA. Same thing for Emerald (GBA) not coming out in most markets until after the DS. Black and White 2 (DS) came out in 2012 while the 3DS came out in 2011. Ultra Sun and Moon (3DS) came out 6 months after the Switch.

If Nintendo does allow a major release on a previous generation system, it could be a sign that their current/coming soon (post-Switch) system has robust backwards compatibility.

I am assuming that is why they showed zero footage and also announced it for an ambiguous 2025 release. We know that the Switch successor was supposed to release this year, but is now coming sometime in 2025.

It’s been speculated that the Nintendo Direct that occurred last week was likely intended to originally feature games for the new system, but was repurposed to showcase other developers. Pokemon A-Z was probably going to be a part of that original announcement as the “Breath of the Wild”-like big ticket day 1 system seller, but they’re keeping the lid on it until the system is ready to show off, too.
