The default sort is “active” which means that posts that are still getting a lot of comments stay at the top. I assume “hot” is more Reddit-like but I haven’t really checked.
It’s a bit more reddit-like but I noticed it keeps auto refreshing so the post you’re looking at keeps going downwards
From what I’ve read, that’s a bug.
PSA: You can change default setting for Active/Hot/New and Subscribed/Local/All in your profile settings.
“Active” sort means that the Front Page works more like an old school internet forum. Threads that are still actively being commented in and discussed stay at the top and get bumped up.
“Hot” sort is more like a Reddit sort, it’s a combination of the user voting score of a post divided by some sort of time function.
This exactly. “Hot” is the setting I’m using for now.
There’s still a pretty small user base. That’s going to keep posts on the front page longer. The same thing happens in smaller subreddits.
Just a heads up, Hot seems to be bugging out now and then. I’m seeing 8 hour old posts on hot. Hope it gets fixed soon
Keep in mind that Lemmy is very much a work in progress. Algorithms change and user count matters.
