I have been in dire need of a big-ass, durable and affordable-enough backpack to carry a lot of shit with me, but i’ve found that most brand-new hiking backpack-type bags cost a stupid amount of money and are likely made out of the same sort of quickly-disintegrating material that fast fashion clothes are all made of.
So I was thinking of getting a used milsurp pack or duffle along the lines of this here Belgian army M97 80+Ltrs rucksack in the image, but i don’t know if there’s better options out there.
In any case, i wanted to ask if any of you knew a specific used milsurp bag, backpack, rucksack or really, anything that has backpack straps and can carry a lot of weight on the more budget-ish spectrum and if so what would be the best place where i could buy one?
(shipping shouldnt really be a problem as long as its anywhere inside the US)
I recently got a MOLLE II pack, formerly used by the U.S. military. I love it. I had my heart set on the more modern FILBE pack, currently used by the USMC, but it’s similar enough. Has an external frame and enough room for all the things required of my life as a homeless person (i.e. I live out of this pack).
Has an external frame
Damn, that might’ve just sold me on that one, thanks a lot!
I don’t have anything that great to add but I have had an everest rucksack more or like this, but without the accent colors and buckles (has more modern/basic clips/zippers/magnet clasps) for going on 10 years. It doesn’t get daily use but it has held up well so far and been on some big trips with me: https://everestbags.com/Item/CTRS01
I also have had decent luck with Fox Outdoor stuff. Both from the same local surplus store actually. But its not that much more expensive online
You probably want something bigger than anything I have though, so ymmv
Depending on the size you need, take a look at something like a milsurp medic rucksack. I’ve been using the same one for 20+ years. They’re really strong, open up flat so you can really pack stuff in and they’re pretty cheap.
