jalapenos have been bred for mildness for decades because it’s cheaper for industrial-scale production to take mild peppers and add capsaicin to “medium” or “hot” products than it is to test each crop for capsaicin content. i prefer serranos and these little purple cayenne peppers that we grow.
I fucking love Cayenne peppers
i agree, jalapenos are very underwhelming. All hot things should be like inconsistently watered habaneros so you never know if they’re going to be super mild or mind bendingly hot.
I don’t even like how habaneros taste they just taste like acid reflex to me and I like spicy shit I just don’t like the stuff that’s like diagonally spicy I don’t want to have a stinging numbing heat. I don’t like the Szechuan shit.
“diagonally spicy” took me right out
it just feels that way
try scotch bonnets sometime, it’s hot like a habanero except the flavor is wild
even if it turns out you don’t like them, they’re so different it’s worth a shot
I forgot to try them after someone told me a while back. You know I never made a getting things done method TM style recipe checklist now is a good time to start.
I was just surprised I’ve never really tasted nice earthy red jalapeño (alone that is. obv it’s in lots of sauces) although I’ve tried a lot of weird hot peppers classic white people shit
Bell peppers are tasty
but are they rich that rich flavor I can’t get enough I’m losing my mind. I guess you can’t hear that because I’m dictating but trust me I sound insane.
those little mini bell pepper shits are pretty good too but they’re fuckin expensive
they are it’s cruel to pass up the urge to stir fry they instantly provoke on sight
How do you eat spicy food without literally being in pain in your bowels for hours? The taste is not a problem for me but the other thing kills me.
habituate your vanilloid (TRPV1) receptors in your gut (assuming you have them) and also habituate your gut microbiome
Do you normally eat enough fiber?
Probably not. Sometimes I eat whole grain noodles. I get maybe one serving of fruit and 1 of veg per day. I have some psyllium husk powder I can dissolve in liquid.
I cannot recommend getting enough fiber enough. Make sure you drink an adequate amount of water if you do increase your fiber intake. If you don’t, the extra fiber will pull water out of your blood. Having enough fiber in your intestines when you eat capsaicin heavy food will give those capsaicin molecules somewhere else to be that isn’t your gut trpv1 receptors and maybe help quell some of your discomfort!
fresno peppers are good, but yeah you gotta get the red ones tho they aren’t very spicy
I know you said you don’t like super spicy things, but ghost peppers are so sweet and delicious. They’re almost fruity in a hard-to-define way.
But also I ate too many and puked once so keep that in mind!
That stuff actually burns me enough to make me kind of glow with happiness afterwards, wonderful actually. Feels like it cleans something out of the whole respiratory tract
Those are the endorphins! The brain gets confused and interprets it as a traumatic injury and floods the system.
Once I had something called lemon drop peppers and it was like that but not a health hazard.
Did some research, apparently those peppers are from Peru and they are commonly used to make ceviche.
I like the ghost pepper super spicyness for some reason, never had them by themselves so I guess I can’t really compare whatever’s going on in there that makes it feel different. It just burns the fucking hell out of you but it’s very rich and earthy too. The only problem is actually hurts you inside a bit in the wrong combo.
Thanks! And yeah probably insoluble fiber too (not relying just on metamucil).
Yeah and? Bell peppers rock 🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑🫑
