A recent cyberattack on Hoya Corporation was conducted by the ‘Hunters International’ ransomware operation, which demanded a $10 million ransom for a file decryptor and not to release files stolen during the attack.

    What needs to happen is that they need to cop it on the chin and do better with their security.

    These companies need to tell the scammers to bugger off. If they keep capitulating, the scammers will keep on doing it.

    There have already been several cases of scammers continuing to threaten companies, even after the first ransom has been paid.

      It’s rare that groups go back on their word, and those that do don’t last long. The reputation for these groups is everything, and all well known groups keeps their promises.

      And it’s part of doing business for them, that’s what capitalism requires. If you want change, governments needs to enforce security standards, since no company will do that on their own. Look at Microsoft, who exposed US government data due to their shitty security practices, government still keeping their contacts with them.
