    This will close the dealer to person loophole where people who should be classified as dealers previously weren’t. Straw purchases and person to person sales will still happen without the background checks.

      What a terribly written article, it almost makes me wonder if it is AI. Not that I expected a well informed article on US gun law from the BBC. Even the grammar is awful, the following phrase is formatted as a paragraph:

      “Around 80,000 licensed firearms dealers in the US who are already required to conduct background checks.”

      Not to mention it’s full of generally bad information and as you pointed out they failed to capture the miniscule scope of what this change will actually accomplish.

      Nah, it doesnt actually do anything. This is a case of the ATF not knowing the laws that are already on the books.

        As an organization, no. But i doubt their loudest members stopped just because their leadership fucked up.
