Hey guys!

So maybe i understood something wrong or maybe my settings are way off. Any way, i need your help.

I have two issues:

  1. When i add a new show it SOMETIMES get’s shown in “Latest Media / Latest Shows” sometimes it does not. For example, yesterday i added The Office, it was added to latest shows immediately, today i added Dracula and it’s not added there despite me being able to find and watch it.

  2. When watching an episode from a season that is not the very first it, the next episode will not be shown in Continue Watching. For example, i have all the Dimension 20 Seasons (i pay for Dropout but their video player is abysmal). Now i started to watch Season 20 and didn’t watch the seasons before that. I watched the first episode of it, but it won’t show me Episode 2 as “Continue Watching” or “Up Next”

Is anyone else facing similar issues?

      That would be:

      /media/shows/Dracula (2020)/Dracula (2020) - S01E01 - The Rules of the Beast WEBDL-2160p Proper.mkv

This is what Sonarr gave me. Metadata collection works without issues and now, hours later, the show is listed on “Latest Media”

For the second point, you can mark the earlier seasons as viewed (click the checkbox at the season level, or even at the show level and then uncheck it on the latest season).

Just found the actual issue, it was because the episodes are pretty long and the threshold for it to be added to continue watching is expressed in % and not in minutes or seconds.

So it was at 5% which can be pretty long for a 2 or 3 hour long episode.

Turned it down to 2% and now i’m fine.

      but thanks!

Your first bullet point happens to me sometimes. Not sure if our issues are the same, but my issue was that I was adding new media and Jellyfin hadn’t added it or the metadata to the database yet. If you add files irregularly, it can take a while for JF to scan and recognize it.

For me, the metadata was the critical bit which solved the issue. This involves JF making queries to TVDB, TheMovieDB or MusicBrainz and adding the metadata to the database. Without that metadata, I won’t see the new media (movie or music) in the Jellyfin folders, but I can manually search for and watch that content.

The fix is to log into JF via a web browser to your admin account, go to AdministrationDashboardScan All Libraries. If your issue is the same as mine, that would resolve it. Also, I’d recommend making sure your metadata providers are set up accurately.

Regarding your second bullet point, I use Infuse as my media player so I can’t replicate the issue.

    Good luck!

Edit to add: Although I can’t replicate your second bullet point, it sounds like it is a metadata issue as well. Maybe your TV metadata provider section is not set up correctly. If JF can’t tell which episode is next (because there isn’t any metadata or the metadata is incomplete/wrong), then you’re going to have all of the problems you’re talking about in your post.

In the example of Dracula the metadata was fully loaded when i searched the show. So everything was there but it wasn’t shown in “latest media”

Yesterday evening, roughly 5-6h later, it got listed in latest media.

I didn’t manually configure the meta data services, i just took what was default in Jellyfin. Is there something i have to specifically turn on or configure?

Personally I have no foxes for you, but these are issues I’ve never seen myself. Perhaps there’s simply something wrong with your install and a clean reinstall would fix things.
