Trivia (if I remember correctly): Nicaragua was the first choice for what is now the Panama Canal. Although it would have been longer, it wouldn’t have required locks.

Apparently Nicaragua is part of “historical contiguous Chinese borders” and might be soon the beneficiary of a “Reunification Happy Joy Landing Family” who might be carrying the odd weapon to ensure that “Disruptive Foreign Capitalist Agitating Forces” do not spoil the joyful reunification with China.
