I hope not too. The first one didn’t, so hopefully this one won’t.

      Who fuckin knows though.

Yes it’s dumb but it’s not like Sony is forcing some bullshit like origin/uplay stand alone clients.

Having to link a free account to play PS exclusives is a small price (less than 5 mins of your time once) to pay.

Sony has been moving exclusives to PC to essentially hook people on franchises to encourage them to buy PlayStation shit, this is just another step along those lines and if that’s what it takes to get amazing PS exclusive games like horizon, spiderman, god of war, etc. on PC, yeah I think that’s a pill we can all swallow.

Or do you prefer exclusives to die on their given platform?

The pill that needs to be swallowed is large companies losing money if they ask for data too.

Sure, those who want can hand over their data. Those that don’t can decode not to and sail the seas instead of paying.

I certainly won’t pay for games on of that force a PlayStation account despite having a PlayStation.

Sony has been moving exclusives to PC to essentially hook people on franchises to encourage them to buy PlayStation shit

There are ~120 million active Playstation gamers globally. Source: https://www.statista.com/statistics/272639/number-of-registered-accounts-of-playstation-network/

“Of that amount, ¥479.3 billion ($3.2 billion) came from game and content sales. Revenue from console sales totaled ¥287.5 billion ($1.9 billion), and revenue from game services was ¥133.9 billion ($887 million).”

        Source: https://hc.games/sony-gaming-division-revenue-6-billion-consoles-sold/

So - Sony makes most money selling games, not consoles. They made 2 billion from selling consoles, and 4 billion selling games. All this for 120 million players worldwide.

There are about 1.8 billion pc gamers worldwide. Literally 15 times as many as Playstation gamers. Sony is selling games on the PC to reach this market and hopefully turn that 4 billion from game sales to 40 billion from game sales. Hooking people on franchises might be an added bonus, but that’s not why they’re doing it. They’re doing it because if they manage to sell a 5 dollar game to every single pc gamer, that’s more than their entire business is worth today, consoles and franchises and everything.

Personally I can’t get into franchises when I don’t start from the first games so I would love to see the OG god of war on Steam, hell wouldn’t mind infamous too.

I just started the 2018 game. It’s a particularly good place to start the series according to other players I’ve asked.

I played God of War (2018) a few months ago without any more context than what is known about Kratos in the public eye. The 2018 remake does not tell you what Kratos did, but it shows you how it affects him. Flawlessly. This game nails the “show don’t tell” approach like so few do. If you like narrative driven games, or want a good modern story about a man trying to be a good father, or like well-designed action games, or like norse mythology, this game fucking rocks.

Really the first one on PS4 feels like a total new series compared to the first 3 games. Not saying the original 3 aren’t worth playing, but they aren’t all that necessary to this story.

As others have said, you don’t need to play the old ones, and I doubt Sony will bring them to PC, so your best bet is probably emulation if you really wanna play them.

I really liked the two most recent ones, though I only played a tiny bit of ragnarok at a friends place because im not about to buy a playstation. I tried the original after on emu and its just not my thing. new ones are more talky and just listening to mimir while going around which is the most important part. theres a huge gap between the old games and the newer two with a whole lot left unexplained and you fill in some of the blanks from the ingame dialogue.

if I had one major gripe, its the chapter where the kid has his rebellious phase or something and I recommend not backtracking for side goals untitl he becomes mentally stable again because the dialogue makes him seem really bipolar if you backtrack while he is being pissy. or just don’t miss anything as you go.

edit: I meant to say something about how if you dont play the og games you kinda get the kids point of view where he doesnt really know anything about his dad’s past. that and the beard saves the guy from looking like warpaint agent 47.

The things I like in the PS is that they still sell a disc edition, meaning that you can buy and sell games on the cheap.

But on the other hand PC games support mods and that’s unbeatable. Plus PS games usually work on two generations only and then finito.

I’ve managed to avoid spoilers this long for Spider-man 2. If Ragnarok is coming to PC then I’m pretty confident I can hold out until it comes to PC as well

I purchased the PS5 cause the library of games on the PS4 was amazing. Worst purchase I’ve made in a long time. There’s been a real lack of games. The best game is Astro’s Playground and that comes free!
