Not gonna defend corporations here, but valve isnt public. They are privately owned by the bosses and employees, valve has one of the lowest turnover rates in the industry. It is quite difficult to get a job there for that reason. So they are actually quite beholden to their workers.
Yeah I guess I was a bit imprecise, it is of course a private company not a worker cooperative or something. But I do recall (from reading about it some years back) that the employees are so fiercely loyal because they are extremely well compensated, have a lot of say within the company, and iirc they also get shares in the company after some time, meaning they also get part of the profits.

Indeed but Valve is an exception to the rule which otherwise applies to 99% of corporations.

I don’t think Valve is employee-owned. Apparently Gabe owns a majority, but the remainder is not known to the public.
