More electric vehicles (EVs) sold in Thailand should be locally manufactured this year as Chinese automakers plan to produce them here from the third quarter, sourcing local materials to support their manufacturing, says the Board of Investment (BoI).
Those idiotic tariffs in the EU and US just mean that in every other place in the world the market will be dominated by Chinese EVs. Meanwhile, European and US cars can only be sold domestically where there is a captive market. That will lead to less innovation and higher prices. In essence the European and US consumers are paying the bill for the unwillingness to change of their domestic industries.
It makes no sense. They’re cool with fucking over every other industry by outsourcing production to China over the last several decades, but as soon as cars are involved, gotta protect the big 3.
It’s time for the global south to get ahead of the west for once.
