The Wolf of Wall Street (1929) is today believed to be a lost film. The only part of the movie known to still exist is this brief montage sequence created by Slavko Vorkapić.
What’s intriguing is that even a century ago, the perception of Wall Street remained unchanged: a predator, a untamed force causing destruction, often seen akin to a wolf in the financial landscape.
A small but incredible shot! The Wall Street building, absorbing the capital (the factories/transports), and shredding money at the same time as a machine. It’s beautiful!
It’s mesmerising
It looks like it’s spitting out ticker tape, i.e. stock valuations, not shredding money
Absolutely incredible composition
Really makes you wonder exactly how they achieved this at that time.
Mattes! Lots can be accomplished simply by controlling what part of the film gets exposed and when.
There really was so much expression in silent movies. This is awesome.
