“Amazon is full of Chinese crap!”

Well yeah dude, when you buy from the resellers selling a $10 item for $100 you’re obviously not gonna get $100 of value.

That will never not be funny to me as someone who works in manufacturing. Of course they’re going to learn how to make stuff, you have to give them the blueprint so they can make it in the first place lmfao. Another one that is still pervasive is the idea that Chinese steel is still inferior to American steel. Bud China makes so much of the world’s steel you would have to be dog shit stupid to believe we don’t have tons of bridges and buildings made out if it.

People are stuck in time. They still think china is making mini mill steel and cheap plastic trinkets. Sure that was the start, and yes they’re still doing that, but starting with that knowledge base with wealth and time they have learned A LOT. They also have a society that invests in and highly values education. All these things combined and they’re whipping our asses

I have to explain to Lemmitors over & over: where do you think your iPhones & other smartphones and laptops come from? What country has more high speed rail than all others combined? Which country has its own space station? The evidence is right in front of their noses.

I will say when it comes to stuff like that it’s not exactly the same. When talking about manufactured good coming from China the way a lot of that is done is through many subcontractors being brought together in order to make a product. So for example a dewalt drill is made in China, but all the components are not made at a “dewalt” factory in China, dewalt chooses which subcontractors are going to provide x, y, z parts and then they are assembled as ordered by dewalt. China could then make a different drill using the same subcontractors as dewalt, but most likely they use some of the same ones, but then for certain components they use a different subcontractor to keep the cost down. In the end you have two different drills that look like they came from the same factory. Functionally it may or may not be the same, it all depends on what contractors they used.

Chinese steel varies in quality just like everywhere else.

I can say that there are some kinds of steels they aren’t as good at yet, or at least aren’t consistently branding so that you can find them, but that mostly comes down to heat treatment of near-finishee steels that is current a semi-“artisinal” market. I’m sure that will go by the wayside in a few years as they develop better and better tools steels.
