This one mod really does a disservice to the whole instance. They’re at the center of so much bullshit. Even their own users seem to think so. I don’t care if it’s intentional or not; wrecker behavior is wrecker behavior.
Not a 1:1 relation, the details are very different, but I think there are some notable similarities in one or a small number of people can be at the center of a problem, and other members of a group shielding that person leads to break downs.
I’m not sure if we could have reached a detente with Blahaj, but it’s disapointing that it came down to one abusive mod on a tangential comm to kill federation attempts.
I worry that the narrative will become that this mod of this comm was THE problem, that the mod will be decided, and that people will be unpleasantly surprised when that doesn’t fix things. Maybe no individual person will believe that exact series of events, but you know how narratives develop online.
That said, I DO think support demoddng, but that’s not my call to make, so….

we learned the hard way that banning wreckers is the only option. they will have to learn the same in just as hard a manner.
Casual capitulation is the root of right wing dominance. They’ll learn.

It called to mind the article “misogynists make great informants” from back in 2010, in the aftermath of an informant revealing themselves in Austin.
Cw: misogyny, sexual violence, fbi, informants
