Had some left over rc junk, challenged myself to make it go without my usual over designing/thinking/planning procrastinating until I never even start. happy how it turned out! reminds me of a tyco bandit, probably shorten v2 even more and stick that bandit body on.
That’s interesting, I don’t have a 3d printer but always wondered if this was viable. What’s the durability like?
If you stick with basic PLA, terrible, it’s quite stiff but brittle, you’ll end up making very chunky parts compared to injection molded ABS or even nylon. best middle ground I’ve found is a PLA+ or PLA tough, still easy to print and flexible enough.
I’ve only broken two PLA+ prints (that weren’t an engeering fail) one’s a kitchen press latch that all three kids hung off for dear life, and the other warped from being soaked in petrol.
Suppose the other important thing to note is you’re unlikely to be able to print a drop in replacement part, prints need to be aligned for strength and built up a little more around screw holes and pivots, on the other hand you can print shapes that could never be injection molded, ymmv!
