    Especially people in the US seem to have a weird violence boner. It’s (unfortunately) perfectly normal that some people like violence, but over there, a concerning percentage of people think that every minor transgression justifies violence.

    Look at the comments below those typical “fuck around and find out” videos. A guy snatches a hat as a bad joke and gets beaten up. That’s not okay, that’s assault, but the comments celebrate it.

      A lot of it comes from the complete lack of faith that the US police services can/will do anything, and how incredibly poor most of the country is. Someone stealing parts from your car, which is stupidly common here, means you can wind up homeless in a month, easily.

      And there’s nothing you can really do to prevent it except beating the shit out of enough people that word gets out to not mess with your stuff (because padlocks are a joke). I don’t condone it, just a really high level summary of where it comes from.

      (Also american exceptionalism and extreme self-reliance are a big factor. Fucked up cultural shit we have here…)
