Here is a list of my favorite android apps. Feel free to post your own.
- F-Droid (app store)
- RethinkDNS (firewall/dns)
- KeePassDX (offline password manager)
- NewPipe or FreeTube (YouTube)
- Ghost Commander (file manager)
- Heliboard (keyboard)
- Termux (linux terminal emulator)
- AntennaPod (podcasts)
- Aegis (2 factor authentication)
- Mull (firefox based web browser)
- OsmAnd (offline navigation)
- Trail Sense (hiking companion)
I just found Futo keyboard. Works very well and has offline voice input that works great.
How does it compare to HeliBoard?
- NewPipe
- Breezy Weather
- Secure Camera GitHub / Google Play
Anyone heard of grayjay? Great multi-platform video player.
I love it and payed for it.
Same!
I’ve stopped using Mull because always seems to have issue on my phone + it only gets update once a month if you are lucky.
Try Tubular instead of newpipe There are more functions like sponsorblock
Whats wrong with regular firefox?
Nothing wrong with Firefox, it’s my main browser
On Android, Mull offers more extensions, unless that’s changed recently
I think they offer the same But you can install any extension you want https://www.androidpolice.com/install-add-on-extension-mozilla-firefox-android/
I did use F-Droid, now I use Obtanium. I use Mull Browser as well, but I really like Fulguris Browser better
I love Fulguris
- KDE Connect: Transfer files, clipboard, notifications between your phone and computer on your local network.
- Unit Lab: Easy converter. Allows you to add different units together (eg. 5kg + 10lb + 4 stone).
- Seal: Great front-end for yt-dlp. Allows you to download YT/IG/TikTok videos. Would like to see IG image download support.
- AVNC: VNC client, allowing me to remotely access my laptop from my phone via local network.
- Binary Eye: Barcode scanner with the option to turn on scan history.
- Copy: Copy text from apps that otherwise may not allow you to copy text. Also allows for easy taking of screenshots.
- Save To…: Useful for saving certain files that sometimes don’t give the option to save.
- Secure Tether: Share your mobile data as a hotspot for other phones/computers, bypassing your provider’s restrictions on hotspot.
How could I forget about KDE Connect. I also use Binary Eye. Great list!
You didn’t specify open source so I’ll post a mixture…
GrayJay (YouTube and other streaming video) RiMusic (YT music streamer) Easy Noise (white noise for sleeping) Peristyle (wallpaper changer)
How did you configure the RethinkDNS. I tried it but I don’t know how to configure the DNS not to block all my internet traffic.
Firewall -> universal firewall rules. Or you can run it in dns mode only if you dont want to block any apps.
I tried the universal firewall rules and apart from block port 80, I didn’t manage to configure it in a way to not lose connectivity. I also use Adguard DNS, which I set manually on my phone, so the DNS only mode isn’t very beneficial for me either.
The dns only option can be selected by tapping the arrow icon next to the start/stop button.
Rethink was okay for me, latest update seems to quit a lot, and it doesn’t warn me, just gone.
Back to DNS66, which at least doesn’t do that.
DNS66 is also very good, but the last update was 3 years ago.
Thank you, I agree with that concern. I need to get an older version of Rethink that doesn’t crash or is vulnerable to Stingray ops.
Here is mine (Am gonna remove 2 stuff you mentioned termux and f droid) Iceraven: A Firefox fork that let’s you get extensions on pc Youtube revanced: A modified version of youtubes mobile app Seal: yt Downloader and integrats in revanced Bunny: A modification of discord Savertuner: A app that extends your battery life in battery saver mode (But might break) Shizutools: Some toolkit app Shizuku: Running some modification (ig?) Device info hw: Shows your device info Dynamicspot: dynamic island on android Electron: shows you info about your battery Droid-ify: A cleaner frontend for f-droid Wallpaper export: Self explanatory Kde connect: A better version of Microsoft phone link Onlyoffice: A office app that is open source ( I think) Okay that’s enough
