I actually enjoyed the first Despicable Me, but the existence of the Minions absolutely ruined this entire franchise.

Haha yes, I can’t disagree with that. Execs are never willing to just stop at one when there’s the opportunity to churn out more of the same and make bank.

I thought they were cute af in the movie, but they’ve morphed into something else in the popular culture

The minions are, thankfully, not the focus of this movie. They do have a side story, but that is all it is, just a small side story.

Can one still enjoy the Dispicable Me series without worrying about too many Minions? I had enough with the Rayman Raving Rabies type creatures… I just wanna enjoy some goofy mad scientists.

I think some of my favorite scenes were with the Mega Minions.

When they’re out on the night watch, they screw up everything horribly. I enjoyed the reference to Spider-Man 2 with Mega Tim. But my favorite part of that whole sequence was when an old lady yelled, “I’m tired of super heroes!”, which is a reference to superhero fatigue.

All in all, it was just what I expected from a Despicable Me movie. I knew exactly what I was going into, I had fun, and I had a lot of laughs.

    Spoilers:

That ending sequence with all the villains from the previous movies brought a big smile to my face, too!

Illumination stated that DM4 would be the final Despicable Me film, but I’ve got a strong feeling that we haven’t seen the last of Gru and his minion crew.
