Maybe people are realizing that “neckbeard” is probably no longer the most socially acceptable term for the stereotype they’re clearly aiming to invoke
Hits too close to home for them nowadays
They apparently haven’t heard of the euphemism treadmill. Doesn’t matter what they’re saying as an insult now, because through enough use, it will become the new bad thing you shouldn’t say, and they will have been the ones saying it.
It’s just better to not insult and to use the right word for the right moment.
Chud is synonymous with troglodyte.
The fact that insults seem to lose their literal meaning and take on a much more vague negative connotation that applies to more people seems to be a big part of it. It’s true for so many words.
