The DOD wants to refurbish ICBM silos that give it the ability to end civilization. But these missiles are useless as weapons, and their other main purpose—attracting an enemy’s nuclear strikes—serves no end.

Interesting. We already have a working doomsday machine (CO2 emissions) but I guess it is good to have a backup.

Shame that Russia has created an environment where something like this is necessary. Seemed like things were deescalating before they went full imperialist and killing civilians en masse to steal their land and country.

I do think we have the power to be the better man. Lead by example and don’t follow. If Russia were to successfully nuke the US would you really want to retaliate? A retaliation would kill millions of innocent people.

Do you want to live in a world where Russia is nuking major world powers without repercussions? Because if there’s no retaliation, they’re going to nuke any country they feel like nuking.

Let them. The blood of millions of lives will be on there hands. Somehow I don’t think they are going to do that willy nilly. Same thing with the US. The US probably isn’t going to nuke Russia.

That’s part of the problem. We shouldn’t look at Russia and think senseless brutes

The basic idea is not letting anyone nuke anyone else by making the consequences really really absurd.

The doomsday machine isn’t for winning wars, it is for avoiding them.

Christ on a cracker. We are better than this. I suspect there are a lot of people getting ready to grease their palms here.
