just discovered mlmym.org (lemmy web client written in go that emulates the look of old reddit), see how our instance looks over there
Shiet, it looks cool!
iOS app soon pls, I miss DT and I don’t wanna use Reddit for at least another month >:(
Got a lot of iOS Lemmy apps in beta right now:
https://kbin.social/m/[email protected]/t/76053/UPDATED-There-are-now-multiple-iOS-Android-apps-in-development
in development? uhuk
Hmm this site is a Progressive Web App. ‘Installing’ it through Firefox mobile gave it a pretty decent app-like experience
huh interesting, but also way too many hoops to jump through just to make it bearable >.< fingers crossed for the app eh!
Yeah. The lack of notifications being a prime issue. I mean, check out the timestamps here =P
Can beta test la if you want haha but will be lacking features/got issues. I think Memmy and Liftoff are quite feature complete already
last i heard, sometimes login still got issue >.<
Ah I’m using Memmy right now, it’s on the App Store dy and seems to work ok.
I’m using wefwef (it’s a web app), very similar to Apollo in design and can add other federated servers into one app.
Ooo thanks skye! Better than what I’ve been doing at least @.@
This one seems most decent so far!
Why not go back?
go back where O.O
r/my dt lor.
At the mean time, have you tried wefwef? Also mlem is quite popular
duwan. If I can help it, I never want to go back. Fuck spez.
I got use Mlem, that one still quite work in progress (sometimes cannot comment for whatever reason, & cannot post images yet). It looks quite nice tho
Yeah, i have that problem with jerboa as well, until it stop working after the update that required 0.18
Better to just use web. Still very much waiting for sync tho
Yeah web is still the most reliable for now. In a month or two, we’ll be spoilt with choices when it comes to apps.
I hooope so, haha, i’d give it at least half a year for it to be good
i did a post on my fedi microblog promoting this instance. if you have a fediverse account also, sila2 boost so more Malaysians/SEAsians know :)
LMAO eta: https://mefi.social/@cendawanita/110654304638688346
One more thanks for the shoutout! That seems have created a noticeable traffic bump. Welcome, fediverse visitors!
Yay!!!
Thank you 😊
Np of course must support XD
Thanks for supporting our instance! ♥️💪
Of coz!

Everywhere from trains to lifts are so crowded this morning
Ya la! Took me 1hour+ to office. Usually if just takes me around 40 mins there
Yeah not sure why so crowded. Didn’t help that the mrt paused from time to time too.
I thought to myself “maybe once my reddit app dies I’ll have a looksie at twitter for personalized news” and now twitter is throwing a hissy fit too
I have no idea where to go now, I’m still not sure how this site works
Switching to “All” mode has not been a bad reddit replacement for me imo! On my feed literally right now: Why all of a sudden tech companies are not being favorable to their users? lol
I’d recommend using an app (I’m using wefwef), and adding the servers you want on here. I added lemmy.world, kbin.social and ofc monyet.cc.
think of it as it’s own little reddit-like server. browse the communities (can toggle All or Local) and subscribe to anything interesting or newsy
can toggle All or Local
oh shit now it’s lookin more lively
thanks for the tip, I’ll explore around a bit more
here is another tip that should be useful while browsing “all”.
remember to make use of this colored star icon. it brings you to the instance a post originated from (so you won’t see it on local posts).
now, for the explanation of why that is important…the best I can do is by comparison, so if it doesn’t make sense to you, do ask for clarifications.
here it goes…federation on lemmy is like email, sometimes messages don’t get through due to the server being unreachable. lemmy will try to resend those affected comments, but it can’t keep doing so forever.
so if the server remains unreachable for too long, there will be comments that are not synchronized to it. besides that, if you are the first person to subscribe to a remote community, only the original posts are retrieved, new comments will come in as they are posted across the fediverse, but not old ones.
I guess (haven’t really looked for a proof of it) what is guaranteed is you’ll see nested comments in which users from your instance have participated in, but for others you’ll have to keep in mind the possibility of there being comments that could be “missing”.
which brings us to that colored icon, it is available for both original posts and comments. but I think it is more important for posts, if you click on it and see a comment on the source instance that has not synchronized properly to your instance, you can copy the url of the chain/link icon, switch back to your instance, and search for it.
that should force synchronize that particular comment (and its parent comments) over to your instance, and with that you’ll be able to reply to a comment that was originally “missing”. I hope this helps and isn’t overly confusing. for more information, you can have a look at the lemmy documentation.
thanks for the explanation! I’m still getting myself familiar with the concept but I kind of get the gist of it now with the instances and whatnot, pretty neat stuff
Lapar
My breakfast
Desperately trying not to make a punny reply…
You’ll go nuts and banana if you don’t let it out.
Enough meh like this?
enuf for small size of me wink wink
Heh😏
Excited to see my bro next week XD has been a while since 4 of us having a meal together and sharing stupid stuffs with each other hahahahahah
Hey guys, I just made an account here after hearing that making an account on the lemmy instance nearer your location would improve loading times. It is true loading speeds are great but I am seeing only few of the communities from other instances. For example I can’t find the [email protected] over here on monyet.cc Why is that so?
It’s available via this link.
The federation is quite wonky so you ought to try typing the whole url in the search bar, and try it a few times. First time i do this i tried searching for woodworking on lemmy world, have to try refreshing a few times before it connect.
Iirc someone mentioned that they have to copy the other instance into this server so you could visit it, maybe that’s the reason it couldn’t connect because it hasn’t done copying yet. But once you done so, other people will have easier time visiting that community.
Yep it takes some time to copy it over.
yeah yesteday when I posted this comment I couldn’t find it but now I do. Btw, are there any plans of upgrading money.cc to new lemmy version? I really like the new top sorting features of the new update and wish we have it here!
there was a short discussion about the upgrade over here, and based on dcx’s response the admins are planning to upgrade.
what’s not decided yet is whether monyet.cc will wait for lemmy 0.18.1 to be officially released, or jump onto a release candidate like what lemmy.world and quite a number of other instances have done.
oh great to hear!
when searching for communities, watch out for the
couldnt_find_object
error, that can mean you’ve got the url syntax wrong, usually (also the error doesn’t appear every time, and I’ve only seen it in the browser not apps, but when it does you should double check the url)
On IG Reel I saw excerpts of an interview with Taylor Swift where she was talking about her songwriting career.
-
She started songwriting at age 12 (she was just learning to play the guitar and her guitar teacher got her into songwriting too)
-
She was the youngest artist ever signed by Sony Music, at age 14.
One more day to the UOB Presale for Singapore Eras concert; 3 more days to general sale and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) release.
It’s good that she’s so talented but truly her rezeki is because her parents can kaw2 support her sampai pindah to be nearer to Nashville
Ya i’ve thought about success in this kind of context too. Michael Schumacher is/was also similar.
Raw talent, was in the right place to develop that talent at the right age (nashville and europe), physical attributes (she’s cute as a button. and he’s light and fit enough to be competitive in carts), parents’ support (and often, their wealth), mental fitness etc.
When someone has all these attributes it’s stacking multiple compounding boosts and they become absurdly successful.
Textbook case of privilege - good fortune is not a bad thing, but it truly can give that extra boost. Unless you’re super talented, and super hardworking and fits the job you want e.g. Oprah. Or else can cincai do stuff and still be successful… Like uh… 🦆 scarves hahahaha
True, that is indeed a privilege. But what is this “🦆 scarves” thing?

Ever find it amusing that Americans don’t call it “July 4th” like how they usually read out dates?
Been using wefwef, it’s pretty slick. Very similar to Apollo. Just that lemmy.world, kbin.social and monyet.cc are still quite slow and underpopulated right now so not a lot of content.
Tambah content time! Oh that reminds me to promote this instance brb
Aiya, still quite early mah. Reddit didn’t took off until years later. At the mean time why not post some meme or food or cat pic 👀
Yup I know, still young rn, but hard to resist the urge to check Reddit haha. I keep opening my Apollo app out of habit. Will post eventually, but I’m usually more of a lurker hehe
It’s okay, huhu, post when you felt comfortable!
Is it just me or that the quality of comments on r/Malaysia are getting worst? Actually reddit as a whole is getting shittier by day for me.
This is why we take refuge here 🙏
For sure, the quality seems to have gone down over the blackout. Noticed quite a few regulars stopped commenting too and many new accounts filling the space ig?
Seems like a lot of the ppl still active now are the “we don’t need Nazi mods” types haha
“you can’t stop us from posting content we stolen from facebook and twitter and tiktok!!!”
Cue my username
That’s the reason i left. People have zero critical thinking now, i don’t even bother to comment anymore.
Test test
What are you testing 👀?
posting from my single user instance
seems like display name is not sync across 😧
:o did you set up your own server?
Which display name? I saw “theone” here
Ye I wanted to try and see how it works, running on a spare Rpi4
this is my display name - |💀| in my instance
that’s interesting, are you using ansible/docker (is docker available for rpi?) to run lemmy like what monyet.cc does?
I’m using docker, don’t see why ansible wouldn’t work either. You have to install official docker separately into Raspbian.
Yunohost is another option but I think they are using older Lemmy version
thanks for letting me know. I looked on lemmy’s docker hub page, but the latest arm build I could find is one of 0.17.3, does this mean you compiled lemmy from source on your rpi4?
Q to the techies: would link clickthroughs from instances and just fedi in general be recognizable to the web admin of the news sites (for example)? Just thinking how soon before news and public sites notice (esp with twt being on fire, reddit being on its way too, and fb/ig being unnavigable) fedi visits and actually start reorienting themselves.
(It’s so embarassing - I can find Indonesian media, Singaporean media and journalists, Filipino tak payah cakaplah - even their institutions and unis are coming onboard, even Thai news and public sector content in English! But Malaysia… KWSP or khazanah got stock in twitter or what?)
you’re probably thinking of the “referer” http header.
it’s certainly possible that the admins of news sites could be tracking that, but monyet.cc sets a “referer-policy” of “same-origin”, which as far as I know prevents that from leaking to other sites.
kbin.social, on the other hand, doesn’t seem set this policy (but I just looked at the front page, and didn’t investigate further).
Ooo interesting! this is where you can see I’m so outdated - is this the same stuff that used to inform blog pingbacks? Or just about anything in a google site kit dashboard that tracks source of the referral?
pingbacks use a different technology, see the “notification medium” row of the table in this wikipedia page.
as for google site kit, I’m afraid I’m not familiar with that, based on what I could find by googling, I think the answer may be yes (at least, it may be one of the methods used), but you would need someone more familiar with site kit to answer that conclusively.
Aha, this is helpful!
