I literally just got Android 14 a few days ago because I had been running Android 13 lineage OS and finally got around to actually plugging the phone in and updating it.

Lineage OS doesn’t allow to do major updates via the integrated updater. You need a PC to upgrade.

You can’t update between major versions without plugging it in. So if you get an Android 14 update and you are on Android 14, you can install it. But if you are on Android 13 and get an Android 14 update, you cannot install it.

How is AOSP? Is it still good without all the proprietary code from Google? The last I read about it, I read that Google purposely put a lot of functionality into the play services to keep the code proprietary. Has that gimped AOSP, or is it still strong?

Feels like Android is way mature OS than any competitors. So Google don’t need to do anything. Just use the market position to milk more money through AI.

That’s definitely not true. We still don’t have focus modes or widgets on lock screen or maybe 3rd party lock screens clocks or the ability to mute notifications on an app/channel or desktop mode.

I’m not sure if it was an official feature, but I remember messing around with KLCK (Kustom Lock Maker) some years ago
