Okay, it’s beastly hot out, and my kids basically insist on ice cream daily in weather like this.

I’m weak, and prone to giving in. But… I don’t want just the same old thing. I’m sick of Prince Puckler’s, I’ve had it with overpriced MoC gelato, I’m not a fan of the big chain places (like Coldstone)…

Surprise me. Help me find an ice cream place that’s both delicious and off the beaten path.

There’s a Salt and Straw by oakway. I’d give that a shot if you haven’t been. They have some weird flavors, but I recommend tasting as many as you want to find one you like.

Another favorite of mine is Euphoria Chocolate’s ice cream bars. Chocolate dipped ice cream + peanuts is delicious.

As for store-bought, I really like Alden’s (their mint chocolate chip is what I eat at home)

Ohh! I’ve been to Salt and Straw in Portland, but I forgot there was one in Eugene now! Guess I know where we’re going next. :)

On West 11th, next to radar toys, is a little ice cream place. Super cheap. I think you can get frozen chocolate covered bananas for like $2

Wait, there’s an ice cream place there? You’re talking about the Radar Toys next to Cookies, Cookies and the T-Mobile spot in that strip mall, right? Where the heck is the ice cream place?

Dari mart has good lochmead ice cream for $1 for a small cup. Great for easy kid pleasers. Handel’s is alright, but I still like Prince Puckler’s for the localness. I thought Handel’s was from PDX, but it’s actually from Ohio.
