In Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem, we play as multiple different protagonist throughout history as they fight against the Ancient (that the player chose as the antagonist at the early stages of the game).
The list includes:
- 26 BC: Pious Augustus, a Roman Centurion
- 565 AD: Karim, a Persian swordsman
- 1150 AD: Ellia, a court dancer
- 1485 AD: Paul Luther, a Franciscan monk
- 1760 AD: Dr. Maximillian RoivasHis chapter takes place in 1760 AD
- 2000 AD: Alex, an university student

Um actually … Pious is not a protagonist, but rather the antagonist after turning into a lich. You play as him at the start and it ends with you choosing which Ancient he will be corrupted by and thus setting the plot into action.
