J.D. Vance brushed off Laura Loomerā€™s racist comments, despite being married to an Indian American woman.

J.D. Vance would apparently rather protect Donald Trumpā€™s decision to pal around with self-described ā€œproud Islamophobeā€ and 9/11 conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer than stand up for his own wife.

Trump has been seen withĀ Loomer several times over the last couple of weeks, with the pair getting eyebrow-raisingly close (Trumpā€™s hand has been spotted in the small of Loomerā€™s back) while Melania Trump has largely remained out of the limelight. Loomer attended a 9/11 memorial service with Trump and also accompanied him to the presidential debate.

In an interview Sunday with NBC News, Vance was asked directly about his and his wife Usha Vanceā€™s opinions on some of Loomerā€™s overt racism, including her claim that Vice President Kamala Harrisā€™s ascendency to the Oval Office would make the White House ā€œsmell like curry.ā€ But Vance wouldnā€™t take a stand against the alt-right ally.

ā€¦

ā€œDo I agree with what Laura Loomer said about Kamala Harris? No, I donā€™t,ā€ Vance continued. ā€œI also donā€™t think that this is actually an issue of national import. Is Laura Loomer running for president? No. Kamala Harris is running for president, and whether youā€™re eating curry at your dinner table or fried chicken, things have gotten more expensive thanks to her policies.ā€

I think many of the people downvoting and/or reporting you (I did both) are aware that youā€™re joking. The problem is that your joke isnā€™t funny. Itā€™s wildly offensive and racist.

I get what youā€™re saying, ā€œI donā€™t actually believe the racist stuff I said,ā€ but weā€™re concerned with the part of that thought that youā€™re glossing over: racist stuff you said. Probably should just delete your comment.

Just realize that comedy doesnā€™t give you carte blanche to shout racist stereotypes and move on.

Humor wasnā€™t the goal. Making apparent the racism of Vance and Trumpā€™s words was. If repeating back the racism someone else used in order to deride them somehow applies that same racist stigma onto me, I would argue that your priorities are misplaced. If I had directly quoted them and cited the quotation would the reaction have been the same? Because it amounts to the same level of disconnect from the words to me. But whatever. Not a hill I care to die on. Iā€™ll delete it. Didnā€™t mean to upset anyone.

No, especially if you used quotes.

        Satire can be difficult.

Props. (For admitting, apologizing, etc. Basically for being human and owning up instead of doubling down or just slinking off).

Maybe Iā€™d be less forgiving if I saw the comment but your turnaround is rare and appreciated.
