Billy deciding he’s got this shit figured out: he’s doing a 2:1 ratio of Mertz to Lagway. It’s yet another odd choice, and if it doesn’t work, and he loses today, he might get tarmac’d in Starkvegas.
Florida up 28-14 at halftime. They probably win today, and Mertz, as usual, looks quite decent against teams that can’t pressure him consistently. Run defense is super suspect though, and maroon Bulldogs are playing hard. I’ll go out on a limb and say Florida wins by 8 after MSST pulls it to within that close with under a minute left.
I don’t really think a win changes much though. Billy has to surprise and probably manage a bowl; 6 looks tough though, and anything beyond that in the regular season looks almost impossible. 5-7 might save him if they look surprisingly competitive versus Andrew-Johnson-UT and/or Georgia and none of the others are unexpectedly embarrassing. If I had to guess? 4-8 but he’s gone before the end of the season.
And the one player on the team most closely associated with Billy coughs up the ball, though at least it’s followed by a 3-and-out.
I’ve always prided myself on being a cerebral fan, somebody who tries to understand the why’s and remember the human stories even when things aren’t going how people hoped, but man this Florida team is difficult to watch and I want to burn it all down. My outward wonk is in conflict with my inner Floridaman.
LOL, nothing screams “I know what I’m doing” like a pre-announced gameplan and yanking one QB after a TD pass, and the other after a running back fumbles.
Honest question for officiating nerds, what’s the difference between targeting and RtP due to neck/head contact? The Miss St kid definitely went high on Mertz, but he wasn’t late.
Florida at Mississippi State

Gators win. I am whelmed. 🤣
Billy lives to baffle another day.

I feel like making an odd qb choice is essentially signing the death certificate if he doesn’t win

Early fourth, and MSST just failed on a fourth and goal. Florida up 35-21. This game is… fine.
As an aside, I’ve been watching Desmond Watson for years, and he is basically useless except as a 450-lb speedbump meme.
We sponsoring the last 2 minutes now?
Oh yeah, this is what I like to see
Fortunately or not, I am not sure MS ST has enough talent to be the ones to finish Billy off.

Gators moved the ball well on the second possession, but then immediately soft against the run in the first quarter against MS ST. 7-7.
