Linux Scores A Surprising Gaming Victory Against Windows 11
It felt like the perfect opportunity to test how a handful of games ran on Windows 11 and Fedora 40. The Framework 13 running Fedora 40. On Fedora 40, I ran a system update before testing. Let’s kick things off with two games that have native versions for both Windows and Linux. Linux is rocking the Vulkan API, and Windows is utilizing DX12. Indeed, Fedora 40 pulls off 7% higher average framerates. Without FSR scaling enabled, Fedora 40 eeks out a 3% performance advantage. A 7% performance deficit with the overhead of running Proton? 🖊️

I’m reminded of the M4-78 restoration mod for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2. Fully new modules or campaigns though? The deciding factor, I think, will be how easy the tools are to use. Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access? Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access? An agent should have grace. An agent should seek knowing.
